Vicki Traylor, MFT--Grief; Pet Loss Support

For many people the loss of a companion animal can be devastating--the loss of a best friend and companion, and the unconditional love and joy that they bring to our lives. Support, tools and information can make for a more graceful grieving process, and provide comfort during an extremely difficult time.

Therapuetic support, either in a group or an individual setting, can be a lifeline for those having trouble coping with such a loss. It can be tremendously helpful to talk about their loss and progress, and to discuss topics regarding grief and loss, including:

  • What to expect during the grieving process.
  • Discovering how other losses, trauma and various old issues may be contributing to the depth of the current loss.
  • Tools for coping with sadness, anger and guilt.
  • Deciding if and when you are ready for another companion animal.
  • Special needs and issues for animal care workers.
  • Additional resources for both pet owners and veterinary and shelter workers --free groups, books and websites.

Individual sessions are always available. Support groups of 5 to 6 people are forming.
